Headquartered in the US, our customer is a renowned manufacturer of premium smart locks. The company also drives solutions for home essentials like locksets, plumbing tools, and household appliances.
customer need
The customer wanted to move from the traditional model of selling locks through hardware stores and adopt a sales model more suited for today’s IoT-led world. They partnered with Softdel to revamp their entire product line with IoT connectivity in an easy-to-use solution that would attract new-age customers. The new solution would have to be Matter protocol-enabled and be able to communicate over Thread protocol and IPV6 — features essential to ensure compatibility with all major smart home ecosystems.
softdel’s solution
- Softdel began with a technical workshop and a small Proof of Concept (POC) for Matter protocol.
- Softdel also further partnered with the customer to enhance their product line by fixing bugs in their existing smart lock products.
- Softdel followed through with an engineered mobile application to support Matter-enabled functionality in the customer's smart lock systems, by:
- Integrating Matter stack with the devices’ existing code base
- Interfacing essential device commands like door lock, unlock, and other access control features with Matter protocol-specific commands
- Implementing Thread protocol over IPv6, for backward compatibility while sending commands over any commercial smart home ecosystem
- Facilitating factory programming through the bootloader application
- Enabling firmware over-the-air (OTA) updates over Matter
