Their offices in 41+ countries employ 20,000+ people, all of whom are diligently involved in working towards reshaping two business segments – Subsea and Surface Technologies.
customer need
Our customer wanted to develop a diagnostic tool that would reduce the huge cost involved with regular downtime and monitoring of turbine meters at oil and gas exploration sites. This tool would have to focus on comprehensive condition monitoring of traditional and legacy flow meters and turbine meters. The system would also have to send real-time diagnostic feedback to the customer to enable predictive and preventive maintenance for cost efficiency and decreased downtimes. The customer partnered with Softdel, leveraging our extensive IoT expertise for an edge analytics application that would make their maintenance schedules smarter and help them avoid costly mistakes.
softdel’s solution
- Softdel designed a continuous monitoring platform (inclusive of hardware and software) that integrated legacy measurement products with modern communication systems, enabling optimised device interconnections with access to real-time performance data.
- The solution supported the standard IoT messaging protocol - MQTT Pub/Sub.
- The platform was designed to monitor the rotation cycle of the turbine meter’s rotor, the pulse period, changes in blade signature and rotational speed, and detect pulsation, swirl, and bearing wear anomalies and blade anomalies.
- For enhanced performance metrics, the platform triggers an alarm when the rotational characteristics exceeded a pre-defined threshold.
- Comprehensive data on turbine meter anomalies was made available via a configurable dashboard.
